Win32: Trojan-Gen
The Win32 Trojan-Gen virus is a
Trojan horse that is installed on
your computer when you
download an infected video
codec or open an infected email
attachment. The Trojan will
install several new programs on
your computer that cause pop-
up advertisements to appear on
your screen and even turn off
your firewall. Because the Win32
Trojan-Gen infects so many
areas of your computer and
because it has characteristics
both of a virus and a spyware
program, the best way to
remove it is to run both an anti-
virus and an anti-malware utility.

Moderate
Things You'll Need:

Instructions
1. Open your Web browser and
navigate to a website where
you can download a free anti-
virus program. Free options
include, AVG, Avast and Avira
(see Resources). Download
and install the anti-virus
program of your chose.
2. Navigate to another website
that offers an anti-malware
program. Free programs that
you can download include
Malware Bytes, Avira AntiVir
and Microsoft Security
Essentials (see Resources).
Download and install the anti-
malware program of your
choice.
3. Click the Windows "Start"
menu, right-click on
"Computer" and select
"Properties." Click the "System
Protection" link in the
navigation pane on the left.
Click "Configure," select "Turn
Off System Protection" and
choose "OK."
4. Launch the anti-virus
program you downloaded
earlier. Update the program's
virus detection information
by clicking on a button that
says "Update Now" or
something similar.
5. When it is done updating,
click "Scan Computer" button.
Due a thorough scan rather
than a quick scan, and tell the
program to remove any
problems that it finds. When
the scan is done, close the
program.
6. Launch the anti-malware
program. Run the program's
updater utility and click the
"Scan" button. Wait for the
scan to finish and choose to
remove any malware that
was found. Restart your
computer to finish removing
the Win32 Trojan Gen virus.
7. Turn System Restore back
using the same steps you
used to turn it off.
Tips & Warnings
Always update your anti-virus
programs at least once a
week to make sure you have
the most recent virus
scanning algorithms.
If you leave the System
Restore option on, your
computer will make a new
restore point as soon as you
start the virus scan. The new
restore point will have a copy
of the Win32 Trojan Gen
virus, which could potentially
infect your system again.
