John Nash's Negotiation Tactics

-OR-*F*ck You, Buddy!*

The following is John *A Beautiful Mind* Nashs model of negotiation between 2 parties whose interests neither coincide nor are exactly opposed. Its from a game he called *F*ck You, Buddy!* It is a classic example of what we see taking place in ourworld 2day: 1} Each player choosees a threat and says *This is what I'll be forced to do if our demands are incompatible & we cant make a deal.* 2} The players inform each other of the threats.
3} Each player chooses a demand that he thinks is worth agree for. If the deal doesnt guarantee him that, at least, then no deal. 4} If the deal is made (under threat, mind you), both players get what they want. If not, the threats must be executed. This means, dont threaten what you really cant deliver, and always deliver what you threaten.
Nash showed that each player has an *optimal threat,* or the threat that ensures the deal no matter what the other player chooses. (--L. K. Jadczyk)
