Strange days

I am driving down a crowded street, full of people coming and going. I am in no particular hurry, but it seems i´m the only one. The man behind me is cursing me, his wife, and his children. I watch from my rearview mirror. What could they have done to provoke such an outburst? His wife leans against the window for a moment, and tries to remember the man in her wedding pictures. His daughter sits in silence and fear, clutching her new secret. "I can´t tell them now!" she thinks to herself, as she rubs her belly and fights back tears. Her brother just sits there with a smile that keeps turning into laughter. At what? At everything! His stoned mind cannot conceive of the pain in the car; the pain in his own heart.
Suddenly, they disappear from my mirror, as the man begins to pass me. As they go by, I smile at them.
But the man just gives me the finger and curses again. And I have to just shake my head and laugh, because on the bumper of his car is a sticker that reads: Smile, God loves you!
