divisions, the voluntary system and the autonomic system. The voluntary is what we can control, like movements and sensation. Theautonomic controls functions in which we have less control like digestion and blood pressure. The autonomic has two systems the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic. The Sympathetic is our fight or flight response. Stress is what we feel when we are in a sympathetic state of readiness. This system is catabolic, meaning it tears us down, in other words we are wasting energy in this state that can be better utilized for something else. This is very common with a type "A" personality, the challenge for this person is to counter create a better regimen to fight this natural occurrence.Imagine a constant state of stress and how that ultimately puts you in a counterproductive state. The parasympathetic system of nerves is concerned with more of regeneration properties. In other words it wants to rebuild the body. It activates healthy digestion, builds your immune system, & keeps your body in a very productive state of calmness. Creating more of a parasympathetic state will help your body build and repair itself in a progressive manner. It's optimal to have both balanced so that you have an easy time hitting full speed and an equally easy time coming down from that level.
Society today as you can imagine is more in a sympathetic (stressed) mode than parasympathetic. The key is to realize this and do your best to create a healthy balance. Keys to maintaining a healthy balance are easier said than done.
1) Train your mind to stay out of negative emotions.
2) Find time in your day just for yourself.
3) Pick an activity you enjoy and make time to do it
4) Find time in your day for physical activity
5) Follow a good nutritional plan
6) Make sleep a priority and attempt to get 7-8 hours a night.
The health of the autonomic system is key and balance of the two is a necessity. The main thing is to figure which state you live in and do your very best to create a balance that will
